View from the helicopter!

Helicopter Ride!!

Helicopter Ride!!!!

My friend gave me a letter from Alma. He's a third grade student from:
Parkview Elementary-Room 29
970 S. Emery Street (I thought this was interesting, Ashley, note the name of the street)!!!
Salt Lake City, Utah 84104 Their third grade class just finished reading a great book
call FLAT STANLEY. In the book, a bulletin board falls on Stanley. He is not hurt,
but he is flattened like a pancake.
While he is flat, he has a lot of fun adventures. He is able to be flown like a kite, capture
art thieves in a museum and be mailed in an envelope to California. In California,
he travels with his friend's family and has a great trip, then he is mailed back home.

The students in his class have created their own Flat Stanley's. Then they sent them
out asking for our help. Saying please do something fun with Stanley! Take him to a
museum, a park, a national monument or some other spot in your city. Then write us a
brief postcard telling us a little about your city and what Stanley did there. Perhaps
tell us what there is to see or do in your city. Then mail the postcard back to the student
who wrote you a letter. The teacher said they were using this to help the kids learn
letter writing, geography and a little about other states and countries.

Getting on with the story, since we were going to Nevada to Cody's wedding I took
Flat Stanley along with us! I had read this letter to Kelly so that was on our minds
a bit. So on the way home I said
we needed to stop and get some postcards of the Hoover Dam & so we stopped at
a big hotel on the way out of Boulder City! On the hotel grounds was a place where
you could catch helicopter rides over the Dam. So just on one of those spur of the
moment things, we decided to take a ride!!!!

We couldn't believe we were doing it! It was pretty exciting! I had to breath deeply
and try to not think about helicopter crashes and just try to enjoy the ride & view!
So with quite a few butterflies & heart palpitations I decided I'd better start taking
pictures quickly of the breathtaking views below as we circled high up over and around
the Hoover Dam!! Quite a thrill and it was over before we knew it!! I got some
pretty good shots though! Kelly sat in the front seat by the pilot and I was in back.
So we had a bit of fun to report to Alma!! And enjoyed my first flight on a helicopter!!
Whew!!

They are building that huge bridge over the Dam and it's quite something to behold!
Amazing!! The things man attempts to build! The pilot said they will probably finish
building it sometime next year.

About Hoover Dam! It is located between Arizona and Nevada on the Colorado River.
Lake Mead, which formed behind the dam, is the largest resevoir in the Western
Hemishphere! So that turned out to be a fun experience for us and FLAT STANLEY!!!!!

Cody & Lucy's Wedding

Lucy & Cody's Wedding

The saturday after Thanksgiving we got up bright & early & drove to
Las Vegas for Lucy & Cody Bowmans wedding. He's the last of Char's
kids to get married. We got to the temple plenty early because we forgot about
the time change. Me and my camera had a hard time. Everytime I
got ready to take a picture either the battery went dead or one of the
Bowmans bumped into me or got in the way. They were everywhere!
Great support though! So I only got a few quick shots!! We had an enjoyable
time & visit!!

The reception was decorated in a fall theme and they served pumpkin pie & cider
for refresments!
Little Cheyenne (Derek's daughter) danced a fantastic
ballet number & little skit all choreograhed by herself at the reception. Very precocious &
professional! I was very immpressed! They say she's been dancing since she
was three & had best teachers. Won lot's of competitions!! Wish I had more pictures!

The Happy couple flew to Jacksonhole, Wyoming for their honeymoon!

Had a nice visit with Derek! He and Bianca were disappointed Lori and family
couldn't make it, they were looking forward to having them come visit! Someother
time! Derek left Sunday evening to fly to Miami, Florida & on to Quito, Eguador on
a business trip!!

Kelly (Cluff) & husband Joey & two little cute girls were there & said to tell eveyone hi!
She was a little disappointed Klint didn't come. Sweet girl! I remember when Klint's
family 1st moved to Arizona, they stayed with us for 6 weeks and Leslie was expecting
this little girl. I remember Leslie was sitting on our waterbed visiting with me and we'd
just put in new ceiling fans, they were kinda the new thing back then & she said between
the motion of the water bed & that fan swirling around she was starting to feel pretty
nauceous! And we were chuckling about the woes of pregancies! I think it was in that visit that she also said she liked the name Kelly and
she was going to name her daughter Kelly and she did!!! Memories! I don't know if she's
ever been told that? Time was limited!!
